#1... newborn
#2 the first few weeks after a C-Section... NO BIKE RIDE ... PLEASE!
#3 newborn
#4 its SO blasted HOT!
#5 newborn.
Did I mention its hard to go on a bike ride with a newborn?
I felt bad every time they asked and I told them, "not today", or "wait until dad gets home."
So a few weeks back, I decided that it was time to give it a whirl.
This is how it started out.....
and Hannah was on her bike.
Looks all fine and dandy.. right?
So 2 seconds into this little trip, Jake is FREAKING out! I decided to just ride on the street in front of our house to see if he would calm down. After about 2 seconds he stopped crying and soon fell asleep. We headed out on this fabulous little trail that runs along our house and down to a great little park. All is well, and I am just elated that this ride is mostly downhill. All of the sudden the bike trailer falls off of my bike. Luckily the safety chain is hooked up.. so no real trauma.. EXCEPT... that the jolt wakes up Jake who is now freaking out!! I stop to put the trailer on. We headed back to our DOWNHILL ride. Suddenly the trailer falls off again. I have a screaming baby, brady is getting irritated because he is having to try to calm Jake, the trailer is rubbing on my bike tire, and it is HOT! I sat trying to get the trailer hooked back up and tried to decide if we just go the remaining mile to the park, which is super shaded.. and the kids could play in the cool water (a little river that runs thru it), or head back UP HILL back home. We decided to go to the park. I finally got the trailer to stay attached while we got to the park. Jake pretty much screamed the whole way... as did Brady. Hannah was a basket case because it was pretty steep downhill in places and then crossed some pretty busy streets. Okay.. it was more me that was the basket case! We finally made it to the park... and all is well... for about 2 hours...
When it was time to go back home I was having the same problem with the bike trailer. I called my bro. in laws who I knew were working close to where we were. They immediately came to our rescue. Chase fixed the trailer and we decided there was no way it could come off. Jake at this point was sleeping and Hannah still wanted to ride. We were only a mile and a half from home. We decided to finish riding home, but take a different route that wasn't uphill, but it was along a very, very busy street which made me nervous. I wasn't sure how Hannah would do on that kind of a road. We head off and I decided it would be best to take the LONG way to avoid some of the busy street. Suddenly, the trailer falls off again! Jake is now screaming, Brady is freaking out, Hannah is sad. It's HOT, we are all tired, thirsty.. and just plain MAD!!! I decided to just push my bike with the trailer just attached by the safety chain. This is all fine, but it makes the tire rub on the trailer, which in turn makes mad boys! After about ten min I called Colby to come and get us. We were only about a half mile from home but at the rate we were going it would have taken us 2 hours to get home! It was a mess...
At least I tried.... at least I tried.
